19TH - 30TH APRIL | SUB-ZERO TO SCORING PERFECTION

Waves with backgrounds

CANADA’S FINEST TRADING SUB-ZERO JUNK FOR EQUATORIAL PERFECTION — HAD UNKNOWINGLY TIMED IT TO THE MINUTE.

WAVES FOR DAYS

What a run of swell! The Sumatra season has kicked into gear. This wasn’t a one-hit pulse — it was days stacked on days of waves, and we were right where we wanted to be alone.

TELO PREMO

Every trip has its wildcard. This time, it was Graham — the quiet operator, the Dark Horse.

There was swell on the way and talk of one of Telo’s premier waves. The Dark Horse had ventured through the Telo Islands before. He had experienced some of the magic of this wave on a previous surf trip, and he hoped this one was going to turn on… and Huey delivered!

Two days felt like two minutes. Time goes way too quickly when you’re having fun scoring epic waves.

EXCURSION TIME

There’s no such thing as a lay day on the Mango. Slow afternoons maybe, but we make the most of them.

An excursion into Telo Town kept us busy and well and truly entertained. Plans to go around the island on the local transport seemed like a good idea at the time, but quickly got demolished by a game of volleyball halfway through. Craig and Sherminator, standing at 6’4”, were quickly selected on each side of the net — and game on! Ice creams for everyone, a couple of Green Goblins at the Telo pub, and smiles all round.

This is when we ask the question — did you really go to Telo if you didn’t go to Telo Town?

EVERY DAY IS THE BEST DAY OF OUR LIVES

It hits differently when you’ve come from frozen coastlines, chasing scraps in 5mm rubber. Sitting on deck in boardshorts, staring at perfect waves with your crew — it reframes everything.

“Every day just gets better and better.”

Stu

“Not only was this the best surf trip of my life, but that was the best 10 days of my life.”

Craig

“Best day of the year.”

ANZAC SPIRIT

A Canadian crew onboard an Aussie-run vessel on Anzac Day? You know how that ends — a crash course in Two-Up, and an Anzac Day session at the Telo RSL that went well off-script.

Money was won, money was lost, and the karaoke machine got a great workout.

YOU KNOW THE RULE… NEVER MISS A FOXY MISSION

There were waves, but the body said we were done. To be surfed out on a surf trip is a good problem to have.

Lines out!

Within 10 minutes the reel was humming, and a little bit of disbelief turned into chaos, which turned into blood on the gunwale. A very healthy wahoo landed thanks to Craig and super gaff man Rabs! Dan also nailed his first-ever catch, and you know what comes after that — the world’s best beer-battered fish and chips.

I CAN’T STOP EATING

When it’s your first time ever on the Mighty Mango, chef Duha, aka Situ, is going to blow your mind. From traditional Padang food, including his famous curries, to epic fresh fish and all the snacks in between, the only problem you’re going to have is eating too much. Situ absolutely knocked it out of the park this trip.

See you next time, lads!
