OCTOBER DELIVERS FOR MACCA, AND CALLING IT ACTION-PACKED WOULD BE A MASSIVE UNDERSTATEMENT

JUST HOW WE LIKE TO START OUR TRIPS

Late flights and a late departure out of Padang had us rolling into the bottom of the Telos a little behind schedule, coincidentally, right as the swell was starting to fill in, and the Mango juju wasted absolutely no time getting to work.

A few waves turned into a whole lot of waves, the afternoon only got better, and the best part? The crew had the A-grade break all to themselves for the entire day.

First trip on the Mango for the lads, and the kind of start that you dream about.

IT’S LOW TIDE BUT WE MAY AS WELL STAY BUSY ACROSS THE BAY FOR A FEW HOURS

The swell was building and getting too big for what was in front of us across the death of low.

A quick run in Foxy Lady and we found ourselves on some sneaky gems. We love staying busy on the Mango, and this session was a Foxy bonus.

CHANGE OF SCENERY

By day two, the lads had already clocked enough water time to be pretty satisfied, and a call was made for a change. Burning some daylight hours driving, but a well-deserved rest in the air conditioning too.

A few hours’ sail and by mid-afternoon, we were tucked into a beautifully protected corner on another stretch of coast. Smaller, cleaner waves, and a picture-perfect postcard backdrop.

A change of pace, a different view, and another reminder that there’s so much magic in these islands around every corner.

CHEF SITU’S FAMOUS RENDANG

Situ knocked it out of the park this trip, as he does every trip, serving up his legendary slow-cooked, tender and rich beef rendang.

The only complaint – “I can’t eat anymore…”

A rare moment when the lads were genuinely defeated, but there weren’t many leftovers that night all the same.

FINISH WITH A BANG, JUST HOW WE STARTED

After a few small days mid-trip, optimism was high for a new swell filling on the last few days.

It may have arrived a little late and been a few degrees off what was predicted, but it didn’t disappoint.

The second-last day turned into an all-out island-hopping mission. A few of the crew managed to tick off four different spots, while the others collected at least two, with some clocking six hours in the water.

By sunset that day, the general consensus was that if the swell held for one more day, it would just be a bonus. Everyone had already had their fair share.

The swell stuck around, the last day delivered the bonus, and by the time we finally lifted anchor for the run back to Padang, there wasn’t much left in the lads. No unfinished business. No regrets. Just a crew of thoroughly surfed-out humans who’d squeezed every last drop from the trip.

QUOTES

“You could have the Taj Mahal in your backyard, but it’s times like this that you can’t take to your grave.”

Oldboy Macca

“I haven’t had three surfs in one day in about 5 years.”

Julian

“I’m never doing a holiday anywhere else again in my life, and it’s only day one.”

SPECIAL THANKS

As always, to the crew who never stop making it happen, from the early starts to the late finishes and everything in between.

A special shout-out to The Red Prince for putting his trust in our operation for the first time, knowing his best mates and old man were in good hands. We appreciate the faith, and we’re stoked we could deliver the kind of trip they’ll be talking about for a long time.

Cheers, Uncle Lip
