The Group

The love for surfing and the celebration of Lindsay’s 40th brought the group together for an all-time trip on The Mighty Mango. From long-time mates to new mates the banter spread throughout the boat from day and night and the belly laughs stayed frequent as the good times rolled over each day.

Conditions/Forecast

Three days prior to departure two cyclonic systems roared across Indonesia creating some tricky ocean state and a lack of ground swell. On paper the forecast was grim, but the magic of Mentawai, a boat built to explore and 30 years of experience ensures we will search out the best waves on offer guaranteed.

Standout Sessions

A lot of moments over the 11-day trip as we covered north to south but the two days surfing one of Mentawai’s most rippable left Macaroni’s pretty much to ourselves from dawn till dusk will not be forgotten.

It also isn’t all about surfing. While half the group surfed one day, the other half went fishing and managed to clean up on a variety of fish, followed by a boozy doctor Bintang session on an iconic beach in the south had guests quoting “this day made my trip”.

Wave of the trip

A little different to kick off our 2024 season for wave of the trip. The wave that was most talked about was on our last day when the swell had jacked and we saw a few 8 footers rolling through. As you see pictured, Lindsay and Nat scrapping under the biggest wave we saw on the 11 day voyage but what you don’t see is Giffy channeling his inner Windhoff as he was on the inside for the set of the day. Everyone was safe and laughs were exchanged as we resurfaced nearly next to the boat. Giffy for MVP!

Personalities

Such a diverse group created such an epic dynamic of lads from Troy’s one liners and stories, Kanye’s gossip gathering in the lineup, Giffy’s laugh on repeat, there wasn’t a minute of dull moments between the entire group. Just how we like to start our 2024 season campaign. Looking forward to the next one.

Professional chef Situ’s high standards mean no meal disappoints and no one ever goes hungry. It’s always hard to pick a favorite from his curries to his Sunday roast and everything else in between, but it was just epic to see Situ in his happy place and doing what he loves – stoking everyone out on every single meal that comes out of his galley.

No trophy catches this trip but still plenty of fun trying. On the day mentioned above, each guest landing a fish themselves while enjoying ice cold Bintangs in the legendary Foxy Lady speedboat, putting this day up there with their best of the trip.
